This is an OC meet-and-greet/discussion meme! We all love Original Characters here, so let's chat about them ones we have, the ones we're working on and even get some advice if we need it.

Alex Furest | Sci-fi/spy/fantasy | Hacker with empath-like powers

[Brief Description] Alex is shy, jumpy, and anything but self-confident. Despite being 6'2" and 17 he tends to act more like a 14 or 15 year old in the general sense and tries to look as small as he can, but he is honest, steadfast, and tenacious. What he lacks in self-confidence he makes up in his constant attempts to do better. He is used to being pushed down, and while he often falls victim to self doubt he never completely gives up so long as he has the slightest nudge forward. It might take time to find this, as he tends to be quiet most of the time and stutters when he speaks, but he can be quite talkative if you get him going. More than anything else, he loves programming. He can do it at genius levels, naturally being able to parse code as well as the powerful computers in his world. He can be adaptable, but he needs to spend a certain amount of time with his programming daily or he can get extremely irritable.
Being a Shadow Eater lets him understand people and their motivations better than he ever could without.
[What's the Canon Like?] It's an AU of our universe, wherein instead of war happening in America, the world ran out of fossil fuels and fell into a severe economic depression. Just before this happened, an unpublicized discovery was made of a people high in the mountains in South America who evolved to live by feeding off of the negative emotions of people. In America there is widespread research into genetic alterations to bring this ability into the public, though it is hidden from public knowledge under the guise of a government program called the Child's Rehabilitation Program. This program genetically modifies young children to have those abilities, thereafter called "Shadow Eaters", though the goal was originally to allow the gene to be switched on and off. A problem with the genetic sequencing however has thwarted these attempts, making all subjects reliant on a pill that contains a synthetic amino acid switch that keeps the gene active. What it is isn't divulged to the subjects and forces them to remain within the program unless they pay a greatly inflated price for the pills. Other sciences, especially computers, have benefited from the research done to deal with the gas crisis, allowing the world to continue on thanks to vehicles that take advantage of other power sources.

1) List five words you think describe you and why.

1. Hacker- I am one, but it's also because I'm just the sort that wants to take things apart, see how they work and... not always put them back together. Not to mention just being able to rebel against some of those companies that do terrible things to people. There is something about working with other people like me in this way that is very me.


2. Shy- half the time I can't get my words out of my mouth, and sometimes it's just too much for me to handle and I have to write things on my phone instead if I have to communicate but I'd rather just not at all.


3. Weak- I'm kinda frail, and it's not like I have a strong will. I can't stand up to anyone unless I have a computer screen as a filter.


4. Awkward- I'm too lanky and tall. I've got two left feet. I don't know how to deal with people.


5. Kinda a Genius- Have you seen what I've programmed? You know that IM proxy everyone is using? You are welcome. Not to mention the indie games I've worked on, but better than that, my virtual security systems. Used by several fortune 500 companies.
