Pimping those OCs
This is an OC meet-and-greet/discussion meme! We all love Original Characters here, so let's chat about them ones we have, the ones we're working on and even get some advice if we need it.
RULES
Meet My OC | OC Building Discussion/Advice | ATP/Enable Me/RP With Me.
- There are three primary headers. If you want to talk about something related to OCs that isn't mentioned in one of them, feel free to make a header for it or ask me in the contact post and I will make one and link to it on the front page.
- All Original Characters are acceptable here! Whether from an Original Universe, MMO/RPG game designed for building OCs, or even a Fandom universe. All OCs are welcome.
- Yes, discussion can take place anonymously on this meme if you feel more comfortable doing it that way, but if it becomes too rude/disrespectful/out of hand, I will disable anonymous comments. This is a safe place for anyone who comes here to talk about original characters. Please find other venues if you get the urge to act otherwise.
- No Obnoxious Coding. No banners, no blinking text, no sparklies, no tables, no pictures directly in the comment (make them links). Use all the colors you like and then some, but please remember no ridiculously large or small text.
- Be Polite and Courteous. No bashing, no rude comments. Be respectful to everyone as you want them to be to you.
- If you have any comments, suggestions, or would like to direct me to any problems that need handling please do so here

MEET MY OC
A form has been provided you can fill out if you want, but it's not required. It's just there to give ideas. Have fun with it, take things out, add things, whatever you want. Also go around and greet other people, talk about your OCs and maybe do a mock IC thread! There's no meet-and-greet without greeting going on.
Toul | Fantasy/Adventure | Magical Cat-girl With Too Much Optimism
She's an Apprentice Keymaster in her world, a Keymaster being someone with the ability to "unlock the doors of reality." They can unlock doors, safes, barriers, memories, and a lot more. She's not the best at it though due to not finishing her training, but she's hoping to find a new Master soon. She's also very loyal and eager to please people, because she believes making people happy and doing the right thing proves she's a good person.
[What's the Canon Like?] The world of Gaia is full of magic, but most people in this world know it as "mystic energy" and it is control and used through the Mystic Arts. There are different types of users and skills that are enhanced through use of magic. Legend says that the humans of this world evolved from different animals through the grace of the Gods, which is why humans with animal features are just as common as those without.
The magic in this world is kept balanced by the number of souls in the Living Realm versus those in the Realm Beyond. If the balance is tipped too far into the Living Realm, guardians called Death Reapers are awakened and sent out to promote death and upheavel. They are an extreme form of checks and balances. Toul's master is believed to have died in a house fire and in her grief she naively tried to accomplish an "unlocking spell" for someone who claimed to be his final client. In truth she opened the cage of the Death Reaper, Saxa, awakening her from her sleep and set off a chain reaction where all other Reapers are also awakening. She and Saxa are currently on a journey to find out how to reverse this, which involves find a High Level Keymaster to do it since Toul cannot do it herself.

[BONUS IC QUESTIONS] Someone just punched you in the face on the street, what are you going to do about it?
What--Really? Someone would come up and just...punch me like that? I don't know why they would do it, but I'd been rather sorry for upsetting them enough to want to hit me. So I think I would apologize and ask them what I did wrong. I can't change it if I don't know what I did, can I?
Karen Larkins | Soft Sci-Fi/Modern Fantasy | Cursed With Awesome Lab Rat oblivious to being a Woobie
Physical: Karen is pale all over, washed out and subdued and ghostly. She looks almost artificial, and like she's never been exposed to the world--which in many ways is pretty true. Beyond that oddness, though, she looks like and is a completely normal human. Worth noting, though, is that she typically remains as fully covered as possible at all times--gloves are more important to her even than a shirt or pants, no matter what the weather.
Abilities: Karen's Sensory Deprivation Syndrome is all touch-based--skin-to-skin contact causes it to affect other people, and it affects the sense of "physicality" as a whole: touch, pressure, pain, temperature, bodily positioning and movement, balance, sense of direction, fine motor control, etc. The deprivation is complete, but temporary, lasting from between a day to a week. There are no lingering ill effects after recovering, but the victim will be capable of seeing a prismatic blue aura around Deprivers, and thus be able to identify them on sight, which would be otherwise impossible.
[What's the Canon Like?] Essentially, the world is modern day Earth, with all the trouble and technology that implies. The only significant difference is the relatively recent (within one to two generations) development (or perhaps discovery?) of Sensory Deprivation Syndrome. Naturally, this has caused a severe uproar; the medical and scientific fields, governments around the world, and society itself is still struggling to come to terms with this and figure out how to deal with both the "epidemic", and those who are ill.
[Rationale] I drew Karen's condition from a charitable anthology (The Touch, if anyone is interested) wherein Deprivers are explicitly meant to stand in as metaphors for all socially marginalized and discriminated-against groups, and for those who suffer from loneliness and alienation and ostracism. Because of this, I also chose to make her backstory largely uneventful, and constrain her in a lot of ways--because she's such a product of her environment and culture, she's meant to be used in a way that sets her against completely new people and cultural norms, and allows her to not only set down roots wherever she ends up, but also be changed by the places and especially people around her, heroic and villainous and ambiguous alike. She gets a chance to gradually grow and realize her potential as her own person--as a valuable human being in her own right, not just a walking disease or an experimental specimen.

Alex Furest | Sci-fi/spy/fantasy | Hacker with empath-like powers
Being a Shadow Eater lets him understand people and their motivations better than he ever could without.
[What's the Canon Like?] It's an AU of our universe, wherein instead of war happening in America, the world ran out of fossil fuels and fell into a severe economic depression. Just before this happened, an unpublicized discovery was made of a people high in the mountains in South America who evolved to live by feeding off of the negative emotions of people. In America there is widespread research into genetic alterations to bring this ability into the public, though it is hidden from public knowledge under the guise of a government program called the Child's Rehabilitation Program. This program genetically modifies young children to have those abilities, thereafter called "Shadow Eaters", though the goal was originally to allow the gene to be switched on and off. A problem with the genetic sequencing however has thwarted these attempts, making all subjects reliant on a pill that contains a synthetic amino acid switch that keeps the gene active. What it is isn't divulged to the subjects and forces them to remain within the program unless they pay a greatly inflated price for the pills. Other sciences, especially computers, have benefited from the research done to deal with the gas crisis, allowing the world to continue on thanks to vehicles that take advantage of other power sources.
[Important Links] About Shadows and Shadow Eaters powers A lot more detail than can be found here. The start of the story I am writing that he is taken from.
[BONUS IC QUESTIONS] To help show off your character's voice a bit if you want to do them.
1) List five words you think describe you and why.
2) What has been the most important event in your life so far? I'm not answering this :/
3) Someone just punched you in the face on the street, what are you going to do about it? Nothing.
Null | Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Humor | ALIEN GHOST and cocky show-off
Personality-wise, though, Null is as far from weird as you can get. He is your basic, run-of-the-mill show-off. He's not a cruel one, being a people-person instead, someone who likes making friends and having said friends pay attention to him; he brags and sometimes exaggerates (or flat-out makes shit up) and does things just because they're the "cool" things to do.
And he's really pretty bad at it.
Really, there's not much for Null to show off. He's not a complete idiot, and he's not a complete klutz. It isn't like he has no skills. But he over-estimates and exaggerates his abilities, and he's definitely the type of person for whom "oops" follows "look what I can do!" more often than not. Which should make it a little less surprising that he's dead.
Still, he's pretty damn brave, which is one of his good qualities. One of his best qualities is that he's really loyal to his friends. And, as said, he's a friendly sort of guy. Pretty much an optimist (if prone to freakouts sometimes), blasé about a lot of things, tends to be encouraging. Likes making quips, can be sarcastic, can also be really lame. He's more of a handful than anything else, but a good-natured one.
[What's the Canon Like?] Basically? Our World, Our Universe. Null isn't from here, of course, but where he's from isn't entirely important; his natural language is a mix of unpronouncable sounds and emotions, but other than that and his, uh, weird physiology, he's pretty much the same as any teenager anywhere. The only important canon events are a)him crash-landing and getting stuck in a random hipster art-house theater and b)him meeting a human named Finch (the only one so far who can see him) and Finch's hipster would-be friends -- including Finch's crush, who, awkwardly enough, is the only human so far that Null can possess.
[BONUS IC QUESTIONS]
1) List five words you think describe you and why.
Awesome, charming, intelligent, good-looking, and... Wait, is good-looking one word or two?
2) What has been the most important event in your life so far?
That'd probably be the dying.
3) Someone just punched you in the face on the street, what are you going to do about it?
I'd be pretty surprised they could do that, let's be real here. Okay, okay! Probably not the kind of answer you're looking for...
Well, first I'd ask them what their problem is, and then we'd have to see from there. I might have to show 'em what I'm made of, you know, that sort of thing.
IR-3N (Irene) | Futuristic | Robots with feelings that don't really get feelings
Irene (full "name"/serial number Android IR-3N) is a beta development in the line of robots meant to "feel" like humans by adapting and learning from their environment. Because humanoid robots that do anything but follow a very basic set of commands are a whole new frontier in her world, the populace is still wary of models like her.
As one would expect of a robot, she looks at things from a very logical standpoint. The way she evaluates situations is mathematical and scientific before all else, and her responses are presented in a very straightforward manner. To most people with actual feelings, she comes across as blunt and defeatist, and she can't quite understand why.
Her greatest desire is to understand emotions on a human level and to be accepted as one of them. She really It's a slow process, and she doesn't actually realize the progress she's made, but she is slowly starting to actually experience human emotions—longing, frustration, and mild disappointment are among the most prominent.
Irene tends to use (and then botch up) idioms, most of which are outdated, in an attempt to appear more human. She uses a mophead tied into a bun to give herself the appearance of having hair, and wears a big pink sweater to make herself look less "naked". It all seems like a good idea to her, anyway.
What's the Canon Like?
In severe need of further development. As of right now it's just kind of your incredibly stereotypical ~future world~; hovercars and other pieces of advanced technology and probably a lot of chrome. Robots as personal assistants and task-doers are very ordinary things but humanoid robots doing humanlike things is still a little out there (the extent of that in normal life is seeing robots do automated seating at restaurants and filing in hotels at service desks and stuff), but technology is making its way to that point.Important Links: Charahub page!
i'm in a rush to get everything in the world done today so no bonus ic questions, oops
Kandice "Kaycee" Caylor | MODERN CHICK IN A MEDIEVAL FANTASY DIMENSION | not the Chosen One
AND SHE'S A STONE-THROWING MAGE hence the rock puns. Instead of channeling her magic through wands or staffs like normal magic users, she has to use stones that have been sitting in pools of water for a few days. And instead of waving said wand or staff, in order for her magic to work she has to throw the rock at her enemy and the magic is released. The stones glow certain colours (blue, red, yellow, green, etc.) depending on the type of magic she imbues the rock with, and the magic used it offensive. She can't use her magic to heal. And once a rock is thrown it cannot be used again unless it sits in a body of water for another few days so after each fight Kaycee constantly has to stock up on new rocks and she finds it to be REALLY DUMB and she doesn't like her magic at all.
[What's the Canon Like?] OKAY SO KAYCEE STARTED OUT AS YOUR NORMAL AVERAGE GIRL in our normal average world in an upper class gated community in upstate New York. So basically it was a normal life and then BOOM technology started malfunctioning when she was in her late teens because that was when her magic started developing. After a few months of not being able to do much of anything related to technology, Kaycee was transported via random portal to a cliched fantasy world called Elyon which has a random fantasy races that resemble all your cliched races but have different names (Ilses being elves and Na-Ilses being dwarves except they resemble shorter Ilses and are not as hairy. And humans are Huus). Everyone in the world has some sort of magical ability, some more talented than others, and humans from Earth being brought in via dimensional fuck-ups were a common occurrence until a century or so. Kaycee isn't the only Earth person brought to Elyon, a chick named Ariel was brought in too and basically what happens afterwards is your usual "oh no there's a great evil. Ariel you're the Chose One you and Kaycee and a ragtag team of random people you pick up along your journey must find out what this evil is and stop it!"
And basically this is like...magic vs technology. Our world, Kaycee's world, is a world ruled with technology and magic does not exist because it can't coexist with the sort of technology we have. In Elyon, it's practically vice versa (though there is technology it's just all magically generated and run).
[Important Links] you can read her shitty app full of ramblings and grammatical and spelling errors.
[BONUS IC QUESTIONS]
What has been the most important event in your life so far?
I think being transported into an alternate fantasy dimension counts as something that's pretty important. And, oh yeah, finding out that I'm totally magical. That too.
Someone just punched you in the face on the street, what are you going to do about it?
Curbstomp the jerk. Okay no I'll just chuck a rock at his face, probably sprinkle in a bit of an electricity spell, y'know. Shock 'em up a bit and teach them not to mess with someone who's carrying a satchel full of rocks that, believe it or not, hurt when used as projectiles.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-03 05:35 am (UTC)(link)W.A.D.E. ∭ Soft Sci Fi ∭ Broken Robot and the big Apocalypse
The main way that he speaks is through recordings and morse code/radio slang. He tends to talk to people with the intention of recording sound bites from them for later usage, and sometimes will use your own voice to respond to you. It's a weird mix and match sort of thing, and he can be hard to follow, especially since he uses Morse Code to substitute words he doesn't have in his data banks. He's kind of hobo-looking, with ratty clothes and long tangled hair, and these fingerless gloves that he wears 24-7. They cover the damage to his hands, which is basically just his synthetic skin being gone and showing wires and stuff.
[What's the Canon Like?] Frozen, post-apocalyptic wasteland! There are main cities still standing, of course, and there are plenty of robots, as exploration devices or nannies or sex partners or whatever you need.
His name stands for Wireless Android Designed for Exploration, which -- well, is what his name implies. He was made in a set, one of eight robots who were sent out of the only remaining cities of his world to explore the wasteland and see if there's anything still out there. Only three returned, and Wade was one of them. He was in rough shape, but they fixed him up and tried to decide what next to do with him. Usually robots weren't reused, but why trash a good robot for no reason, right?
So they sent him and the other two robots to become housekeepers or maids for the rich citizens of the city. Wade was assigned to the Mackenzie's, and ended up watching the Mackenzie's "problem child", Annabelle. Annabelle is mostly responsible for the way Wade is now -- she's an accomplished programmer, and she fiddled with Wade's settings. Originally her intention was to get him to become violent, and thus be sent to the garbage, but it didn't work that way. Instead, a combination of her fiddling and the fact that Wade had seen so much in such a short time ended up with Wade developing a too-human personality. He attached himself to her, and took care of her.
In the story he's in, he's broken further because of the plot, when they sneak out of the city -- Annabelle broke his voice on purpose so that he wouldn't have to tell secrets if he didn't want to. Currently, he's trying to find his way back to the city, because once the robot makers arrested Annabelle for tampering with government goods and found out they couldn't make Wade talk, they threw him out into the wasteland as garbage. His main goal is to rescue Annabelle.
[Important Links] UH NONE YET he's pretty new, like... two, three months, so his history and stuff isn't fleshed out so well.
[BONUS IC QUESTIONS]
1) List five words you think describe you and why.
[ He frowns for a second, and then opens his mouth to play a pretty familiar song. Sure, it's not five words, but hey, at least the chorus is four words? ]
2) What has been the most important event in your life so far?
[ That gets a big smile out of him, and he bounces a little on his heels as he answers. His voice, this time, is a recording of a young woman: ] Annabelle! Anna - ding ding - belle. Annabelle.
3) Someone just punched you in the face on the street, what are you going to do about it?
[ D: D: D: Wade makes a squeaky, beeping noise and folds his arms over his chest, looking half disgruntled and half unhappy. Why would someone punch him in the face? That's so rude! ]
Mattias Larnaca | Adventure/Fantasy | Accidental Antagonist In Love With Night
He acts as the host and "prophet" of the goddess of night, Nocta, though his status doesn't grant him any truly extraordinary ability. The most he's able to do is allow Nocta release, at which point she spreads from him in smoky tendrils to spread night across a medium-sized area.
[What's the Canon Like?] Mattias lives in a world where night doesn't exist due to the absence of the night goddess. There are two major religious groups with their own capital cities. The Orphlegians, or those who worship the sun god, live in a gigantic circular canyon city called Oramos, ruled by the god himself (while being hosted in human bodies). The other city is on the surface and is a matriarchal society run by the Nalani, or the worshippers of the exiled (and presumably destroyed) goddess of night.
To keep this summary as simple as possible, Mattias is and Oraman noble who betrays his people to try and restore the world to how it first was–that is, with night and day ruling equally. By the time the story begins, he's finished wandering in the barren desert for a little over two years and has successfully found the location of the banished goddess of night and entered a binding contract with her, acting as her host until she restores her power. Together, and with the reluctant help of both a nalani woman and orphlegian man, they set off back to Oramos to restore the goddess to her rightful place.
[Important Links] I don't have links but if you want to know more I will be happy to blab at you. Been working on this world way too long.
[BONUS IC QUESTIONS]
List five words you think describe you and why.
Why? There. Did it in one.
What has been the most important event in your life so far?
Being born would be one. Being almost sacrificed, another. The list goes on–you can't just tell me to pick one.
Someone just punched you in the face on the street, what are you going to do about it?
Glare, maybe. Get angry, undoubtedly. But I wouldn't fight them, if that's what you're asking.
Martin Gallagher | Modern fantasy? idk | Socially Awkward Man Who Talks to Objects
The reason for all of this is due to the power he received after drinking contaminated beer at a tasting party. Since then, he's had the unfortunate ability to hear and converse with all inanimate objects, which, needless to say, makes him sound pretty crazy. Thus the loss of his job, family and friends.
[What's the Canon Like?]
Martin lives in what I guess counts as a modern fantasy AU of our world. Small events are different–there was a hurricane named Vince that destroyed a power plant that caused a chemical leak, contaminating people throughout the entire east coast. Those that didn't die got superpowers, though the majority of them are certifiably useless (turning garden hoses into lassoes, for example). The few who have useful powers (invisibility, etc.) sometimes become superheroes and/or supervillains in the major American cities, but the rest have to enter the governmental support system made for them. This system generates things such as job placement, support groups, and housing that the superpowered's can enter into.
This, is where Martin lives. Specifically in the Rhode Island branch. He's been cut-off by his family and, eventually, yearns to be accepted by them once again but until then he's working as a detective with the Providence Police Force. He likes it well enough. His partner is one of the few people that accept him, so that helps. The murders he deals with... not so much. As of his canon point, he's running to ensure the safety of his family after a series of successful investigations have made him a target for a local, superpowered ganglord.
[Important Links] here's his app
[BONUS IC QUESTIONS]
What has been the most important event in your life so far?
Um. Well. I guess... I guess that'd have to be my powers, right? I guess that's pretty spectacular. I mean, who else gets to say they got superpowers from drinking a beer? Not many. Well. Not many other than the people with me who drank the same beer. I guess they could say that happened to them too. ... If they could say anything. I think one of them might have died.
Kinna Nananea | Sci-Fi | Friendly Doctor Alien ::)
Nananea is basically a tall, red skinned, four-eyed, four-handed alien. Basically. She's a doctor on a ship of refugees and exiled aliens. Also super flirty. ALSO wants to know everything about you, all the time. Does not respect personal space at all. Very loud and touchy, likes to meet new people and make friends. And a complete coward, seriously. Very smart, very hands-on in her work. Is currently creating an enormous database on every known alien species in addition to her normal doctor work.
So a super social alien doctor who wants to know all about you please tell her ::). She's not complicated.
[What's the Canon Like?]
Uh well it's space and there's a lot of aliens?? Like. It's the most basic sci-fi thing ever.

[BONUS IC QUESTIONS]
1) List five words you think describe you and why.
Friendly, of course! Intelligent- but most doctors are, don't you think! Curious, oh yes, certainly. And annoying! I get that often...loud, too. But I am fine with those labels!
2) What has been the most important event in your life so far?
Coming to my captain's ship, of course!
3) Someone just punched you in the face on the street, what are you going to do about it?
Why would anyone want to do that! I suppose I would have to ask them why.
Key | modern fantasy with old world flavors | necromancer rock star
He's an ass. No seriously. He grew up as the really odd kid in his class with that big American father and a weird accent and hey, he can see dead people. Being that he had two ways to face down that kind of pressure, Key decided to go the aggressive route and fight back, which in turn made others call him a reckless idiot even though his grades were pretty high up there, enough to place him on the top lists for prep schools. Not that he went into that. Thanks to having a larger than normal interest in music and creation - this is tied in with his whole 'seeing ghosts' thing - he only did the minimum of what was required to pass school and spent the rest of his time playing music. He ran into a couple people living the visual lifestyle and that pretty much sealed his future life. By the point in his canon, he is a huge name in the field, and is an ass with a soft squishy center that his family will play on as well as the ghost that is attached to him.
[What's the Canon Like?]
Magic is an accepted part of living although most people born with odd powers are placed on a list for law enforcement to either make sure they are not using their abilities for the greater evil or so the law agencies can ask them for help. This happened thanks to the various religions that decided to bring the abilities of magic users into the fold and keep them from tempting all sorts of chaotic stuff from happening. Key's family on his father's side were long standing practitioners of the art of 'seidhr' which is an old school necromancy branch and considered one of the worse kind of magics out there. The religious groups usually take such kids and bring them into the religious schools for proper training, but thanks to his parents jobs moving them to a country that does not have a strong presence in church-blended politics, Key was allowed to grow normal. Well, as normal as an American can be in a traditionally Japanese school system.

[BONUS IC QUESTIONS] 1) List five words you think describe you and why. Bratty, successful, arrogant, asshole, stronger than you
2) What has been the most important event in your life so far? Meeting Yuri.

If it's a guy, I'll fuck him up. If it's a girl, apologize.
Kaiji | sci-fi/fantasy | tiny incubus of the nice variety
Here have a tiny flirt. He is very casual, very flirty, enjoys sex and smoking and drinking and doesn't really care for anything else, especially anything that involves work and paper work and hurting people. This is really sort of strange given the fact that he is actually a demonic creature, but can be forgiven since he is an incubus. Then again, seeing how he is the leader person of the group of young angelics and demonics left behind in the physical universe after all the elders went back to the divine dimension, well his attitude is just strange.
He also is short - barely five foot eight in his official military boots - tiny and tends to spend all his time in other people's beds, he just doesn't project the whole 'evil creature of evilness trying to suck your soul through your sex' vibe that another one would.
[What's the Canon Like?]
Humans had decided to take all these weird other races like weres and vampires and ghouls and shapechangers and so on and put them together in camps to use for military applications. The vampires said NOPE and left earth with their special ships, and the rest started fighting. Then the vampires came back yelling about a great space alien thing that is eating everything carbon up and suddenly the war went out into space to stop this great virus stuff eating everything in it's path except the crystalline spider-people. The organics were losing but then the heavens split open, letting forth a host of demonic and angelic creatures to fight in the war. Alien virus was defeated and the host disappeared after that, leaving behind twelve young representatives to watch over things. The military pre-empted the religious groups that wanted to worship them and took the twelve into their fold as their best defense against the alien black sludge virus stuff.

Splinter this horror movie is what I based the alien virus sludge after, though I did rename it as The Creeping only cuz that is what it does.
[BONUS IC QUESTIONS]
1) List five words you think describe you and why.
tired, hungry, short, horny, tired. I think I said that twice, right?

stephen "duffy" alexander durfey | 1980s boston | a one-armed busker
Duffy is highly sarcastic and always cheery on the surface, but he is very depressed and lonely a lot of the time. It's taken him a long time to come to terms with all the tragedy in his life, but he's working towards turning his life around even if without any funding there isn't much of a future there. He's also haphazardly looking for his father, though he keeps backing out of it before he gets close.
[Important Links] This was the only app I ever wrote for him, and his story is constantly evolving, but there you have it.
[BONUS IC QUESTIONS]
1) List five words you think describe you and why.
fag, fabulous, lopsided, original, brilliant
they're all pretty self-explanitory
2) What has been the most important event in your life so far?
Take a guess.
3) Someone just punched you in the face on the street, what are you going to do about it?
Punch them back! Asshole.
katrina kendel | modern day LA | aspiring model
She is creepily skinny, but not by choice. It's more a byproduct of not being able to process most foods. She has to be extremely careful about everything she eats or drinks, and finds herself throwing up more than she eats. This causes the other girls to label her as bulimic, and she is tormented by everyone in the fashion industry. She would give anything to be in magazines, and is really just the sweetest person in the world once you get to know her. Her odd accent is what happens when an LA girl is actually from Louisiana. Her entire family was slaughtered in Hurricane Katrina, and she goes by 'Miss Hurricane' on set now. Oh and she's gay, like idk all of my ocs ajhgdjhdgd I was young :(
[What's the Canon Like?] Modern day LA it's just as boring as that. It's perhaps more "cartoony" in that things work out like in the movies more often than not, but nothing supernatural to speak of.
[Important Links] A list of Kat's allergies , and a hilarious log
[BONUS IC QUESTIONS]
2) What has been the most important event in your life so far? I'd have to say the hurricane. Miss my daddy and mama something fierce. But I know so long as I live, they'll live on, through me.
Feda Gandamak | RPG mimicking fantasy | vile douchebag who needs taming into a good guy
Feda is a mage, the common descriptor for any human capable of creating and using magical energy for any effect. In his case, he doesn't actually know any spells and instead uses it to boost his physical abilities and to summon creatures of various types. His world's rules of physics are sort of replaced with an RPG game system, which he is aware of. That's generally not used for comedic purposes, it's just sort of a thing everyone knows.
Anyway, magic has been sealed away in his world for thousands of years, only recently trickling back. As a result, it's primarily hidden from the general population and in fact Feda's magic was artificially activated as part of a sinister scheme by a mysterious organization that is manipulating the mages of the world for a nefarious purpose. Although he is unaware, he is a pawn in a plan for WORLD DOMINATION.
As the cost of his activation, he was given only ten years to live and then thrust without guidance into a violent and secretive world of magic and monsters. He didn't really handle it well and has become a distant and abusive dickbag who relieves the stress of his shitty life by torturing his fellow mages to death for abusing their power...which is almost all of them, entirely because of the above mentioned plan being designed to spread those types far and wide. Eventually though he becomes caught up in the emergence of the 'Protagonist' of his 'game', who after a series of near murder experiences he joins. Through the help of this Protagonist he has his curse lifted and lives on, also helping in returning magic properly.
Cut ahead ten years and the state of the world has changed enormously due to the now huge mage population and he's again pulled into the fray by the Protagonist to protect the world from the same organization...And eventually from the reason magic was sealed away in the first place.
As a teenager he keeps people away by being distinctly abusive to males and by flirting in a way meant to repel with girls. He thinks this is his way of having as much fun with his waning life, but really it's a way to keep his distance from everyone since he's terrified of having a connection with anyone when he's a horrendous sack of shit who is going to die anyway. Once his curse is lifted, he starts trying to be better about things, but the enormity of his near death experience has left him with thrill seeking tendencies and a quiet belief that life can come and go at a moment's notice. Because of this, he's horribly irresponsible and can't settle down in one place, instead becoming a world travelling adventurer and fathering a lot of children by accident and being a deadbeat dad.
[What's the Canon Like?]
Early on it's quite similar to the usual urban fantasy environment. Mystical elements in a modern day setting, which are kept secret to the advantage of the mystically inclined. However, there are a number of differences to the modern world in this setting. The time under mage rulership and then the sudden disappearance of mystical elements has caused a bit of a weird world. Most of them are pretty subtle, but in short international community is stronger due to a sense of relationship between the non-magical humans who created society in a post mage world and since pretty much every myth or religion was true back in the mage days, superstition has dwindled down to nearly nothing. The world itself is about twice as big as Earth and the geography is weird.
After magic is re-established, everything turns on its head. In ancient times mages were a very small percentage of the human population and were still able to basically rule all humans, but due to interbreeding during the years in which magic was a non-factor 40% of the world population are mages when magic returns. Inhuman creatures and mankind try to co-exist with a more tolerant modern mindset, but ancient terrors reawaken along the way. The International Sorcery Control Commission (I.S.C.C, usually pronounced Ice) attempts to police and aid the world in chaotic times. The world itself has changed, gaining new satellites and growing to four times Earth's size with new locations in place.

Also! Of note is that when writing all this out I did so with the specific intention of one day getting other players to create or adapt OCs to fill in some gaps, so holes all over the place on purpose.
Felicia McCready/Sidhe | Superhero/Modern Fantasy | Fake Angel Working the Superhuman PR Circuit
She loves attention and even left her original team to join the "Face of DELTA" PR team because of it. Well, that and she didn't want to get too attached to the people there. After living in seclusion for most of her life, she's outwardly a very social, people person, but really she doesn't talk face-to-face with that many people. She does on the other hand, spend a lot of time chatting with people through social networking sites and text messaging on her smart phone.
She was born with bleach white wings on her back and her parents thought that meant she was an angel sent from God. In reality, her wings are merely an energy construct that she subconsciously controls. If she had the right amount of control or emotional output, she would be capable of altering the constructs form, but Felicia isn't really one for zen meditation or strong mental conditioning. So instead she uses them to her advantage, playing the role of the overly kind, generous and in many ways "angelic." It gets her want she wants and leads people into a false sense of security around her.
[What's the Canon Like?] Felicia is from a modern-esque world in the year 2014, but within the last twenty years superhumans have become a more prominent and acknowledge part of society. The U.S. government has taken steps to try and encourage normal Americans to accept superhumans as average citizens just like them, while also using the Department of Enhanced Logistics and Technological Advancements (DELTA) to study, train, and monitor superhumans across the country. DELTA recruits Supers so they can learn how to control their powers and use them to benefit the country, but also has secret ops teams that are sent in to control and contain rogue Supers before they can cause civilian casualties.
In a world where a lot of people still aren't sure how to feel about Superhumans, Felicia being born with wings "like an angel" to a fanatical family in a small rural town in Oklahoma led to her being seen as a messenger of God on Earth. She was isolated for most of her life, only being allowed to speak to people from her parents' congregation who came to their home every so often. When she finally discovered the Internet by sneaking onto her parents' computer when they weren't home, it was like she had found a whole new world. And that world was very different from the one she had been living for the past ten years. She is a self-taught computer techie because of it.
She eventually ran away from home and used some unsafe methods to make her way to Chicago, Illinois. She almost got hit by a car, borrowed the credit card of the guy who almost hit her (no really, she gave it back later), and spent the next six months moving around trying to figure out what to do with herself before she decided to sign on with DELTA. She's been with them for the past three years.

[BONUS IC QUESTIONS] List five words you think describe you and why.
Just five? Wow, you must think I'm so shallow, but sure, fine. Beautiful, because that's a bit self-explanatory and you were expecting it. Opinionated, because I have a mind of my own and like using it, thank you. I'm a risk-taker, because I'm not afraid to try new things and don't let the unknown hold me back. Playful, since, I like to have fun--all kinds of it. And I guess the last one could be super, but come on, that's too corny. Let's go with independent.
Someone just punched you in the face on the street, what are you going to do about it?
If someone punches me, I'm breaking their nose. I don't care why they did it. My Agent would just love the publicity of me going after some asshat for attacking me right on the street...by which I mean she would want to kill me, but that's a nose-breaking offense.

One big thing I've learn is that you shouldn't...treat them like "original characters"? If you treat your character the way you would any other character from a fandom canon, people aren't as wary about playing with them.
no subject
How do you personally consider treating a character like an original character, versus treating them like a canon character?
no subject
Treating your OC like you would any regular character probably involves a level of creative responsibility and distance at the same time. Yes, you made this character, but you shouldn't go into conversation or thinking of you and what you put into the character. Think of the character and the story you've created for them like you would a story you have published for people to read already. Just like a fandom character you're character has a backstory, a personality, events that have happened in their lives, and you should have enough of it written out somewhere that you can go back and check yourself whenever needed. Don't look at them as being malleable and easy to change things whenever you want. You created their canon already, so unless it is something that needs to be changed, don't. The more you alter just because you want to, the more you stop looking at the character as a current being and start seeing them more as a being-in-progress that you can keep shifting things around on.
I play comic characters too, and sometimes writers change things for the most ridiculous reasons that make no sense. And the audience usually reacts to it unfavorably because you never understand WHY those changes happened or what use they have, especially if they end up radically changing something about the character. So when writing an original character I look at things the same way, don't change things needlessly, because if you do, then no one will see who your character is and they will start to expect inconsistency from you. This isn't to say you can't reveal things you hadn't brought up about your character before, but your character feels less inconsistent if any big reveals that happen don't fundamentally alter the character. The reveals should add to and explain things that maybe didn't make sense before, not create more confusion.
If that makes any sense.

I try to avoid as many tropes as possible as well, since that tends to make a character flat, but that doesn't mean your character won't fall into one trope or another. Instead of writing a character with a base personality type, try to pick out a quirk and work around that, see how it develops.
My main OC, Alex, started out as an over-sized hoodie and a rat that liked hiding in the sleeves. That turned into someone shy, but willing to go out on a limb for someone- saving the rat. Slowly, playing with the idea, he turned into a programming genius that is crippling shy. That might be a trope, but all of the effort of developing him (who was a she for a while, and then suffered from multiple personality disorder) created a much more well-rounded character. Even the process of merging the personalities from the personality disorder into one person added much depth to him. I had felt that part of that disease tends to be (at least according to what studies I researched,) comprised of flatter personalities that split and are absent from the main personality.
Relying on things like MPD (or whatever is PC these days) tends to make it at least seem like you are using a crutch. That isn't to say that your character shouldn't have some disability- physical or mental- but remember that no one thing defines your character. Think of how I mentioned Alex's jacket and pet rat. They don't define him, but are more like the 11th Doctor's bow tie, or Sokka's boomerang, or even the many meals a hobbit likes to eat in a day. These things influence a character, but do not define them.
Not just your inspiration should be this way either. Every fact you think up about your character should influence them somehow, even if it is subtle. Nothing should be flair, but at the same time nothing should be their only concern. Even characters completely focused on one thing have a whole history that influences why they are focused on this, and how they deal with obstacles and the people around them. This will make people more interested in finding out more about your character.
I think I may have gone on a bit more than I meant, and by no means do I think my characters are perfect, but these are some things I've learned over the years I've been writing. These are the same tenets I use when making characters for fiction works, and I use the same concepts to explore and learn about canon characters that I play. I hope that they can be of some help to you too!

The concept focuses around combat, however most of the game relies on CR developed outside of the fighting game run within the school, however most people are more than happy to play out the fight scenes if you want to! Death is non-permanent, but there isn't too often a reason for a character to die. Come, check us out, since the profile does a far better job of advertising than I could!
