Teresa Genova | Stupid Teenage Vigilantes | Squawking Superhero

[personal profile] voliera 2013-03-29 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[Brief Description] Teresa is a young shapeshifter, part of a ragtag group of superheroes called, well, Ragtag. She's tall, but sort of bony; her imposing aura is all personality. She's brash, blunt, and bold; quite a contrast to Terrence, her twin brother and the most important person in her life. They live on their own, having run off after their parents couldn't accept Teresa being trans.
[What's the Canon Like?] In a lot of ways, it's very much the modern world, with all of its complexities and diversities. But there are fantastical elements, and a dash of comic book logic here and there. Ragtag has been operating for about half a year, and it's been tolerated so far. That wouldn't happen in the real world.
[Important Links] Teresa's profile, and my first notes on the twins. (Adelita, the last member to join, is on there too.)
[BONUS IC QUESTIONS] To help show off your character's voice a bit if you want to do them. Your character is more than welcome to lie if it's IC for them.
1) List five words you think describe you and why. Fun, adventurous, scary, brave, independent.

2) What has been the most important event in your life so far? Leaving home, easily. Before that, it'd be the first time I knew I could fly.

3) Someone just punched you in the face on the street, what are you going to do about it? Punch them back harder, obviously.

4) You are now trapped inside a jamjar. Yes a glass, oversized jamjar. With little holes in the lid for air. What are you going to do about it? No way am I telling you my plan of escape. Who asks someone this?

Felicia McCready | Supehero/Modern Fantasy | Fake Angel Working the Superhuman PR Circuit

[personal profile] notsoheavenly 2013-03-29 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[Brief Description] Felicia is pushy, domineering, a bit vain, and knows what she wants and goes out to get it. She is not someone who gives into fear easily, but does have a habit of running away from her troubles while trying to convince herself that it's not what she's doing. She loves pulling pranks, although the severity of them could be as simple as putting salt in someone's coffee instead of sugar or as elaborate as she bought a stripper for her best friend's birthday party and had him convinced there was a fire in the kitchen that the "fireman" needed to put out. She's not afraid to make the first move, but she becomes flippant went things get too close to upseting her.

She loves attention and even left her original team to join the "Face of DELTA" PR team because of it. Well, that and she didn't want to get too attached to the people there. After living in seclusion for most of her life, she's outwardly a very social, people person, but really she doesn't talk face-to-face with that many people. She does on the other hand, spend a lot of time chatting with people through social networking sites and text messaging on her smart phone.

She was born with bleach white wings on her back and her parents thought that meant she was an angel sent from God. In reality, her wings are merely an energy construct that she subconsciously controls. If she had the right amount of control or emotional output, she would be capable of altering the constructs form, but Felicia isn't really one for zen meditation or strong mental conditioning. So instead she uses them to her advantage, playing the role of the overly kind, generous and in many ways "angelic." It gets her want she wants and leads people into a false sense of security around her.

[What's the Canon Like?] Felicia is from a modern-esque world in the year 2014, but within the last twenty years superhumans have become a more prominent and acknowledge part of society. The U.S. government has taken steps to try and encourage normal Americans to accept superhumans as average citizens just like them, while also using the Department of Enhanced Logistics and Technological Advancements (DELTA) to study, train, and monitor superhumans across the country. DELTA recruits Supers so they can learn how to control their powers and use them to benefit the country, but also has secret ops teams that are sent in to control and contain rogue Supers before they can cause civilian casualties.

In a world where a lot of people still aren't sure how to feel about Superhumans, Felicia being born with wings "like an angel" to a fanatical family in a small rural town in Oklahoma led to her being seen as a messenger of God on Earth. She was isolated for most of her life, only being allowed to speak to people from her parents' congregation who came to their home every so often. When she finally discovered the Internet by sneaking onto her parents' computer when they weren't home, it was like she had found a whole new world. And that world was very different from the one she had been living for the past ten years. She is a self-taught computer techie because of it.

She eventually ran away from home and used some unsafe methods to make her way to Chicago, Illinois. She almost got hit by a car, borrowed the credit card of the guy who almost hit her (no really, she gave it back later), and spent the next six months moving around trying to figure out what to do with herself before she decided to sign on with DELTA. She's been with them for the past three years.

[BONUS IC QUESTIONS]
What has been the most important event in your life so far?
Kind of a personal question, don't you think? I mean, I could use the standard "being born," but how cliche could I get in one day, right? I guess the day I signed on for the Team could be, too. [But she's not actually going to give a real answer.]

You are now trapped inside a jamjar. Yes a glass, oversized jamjar. With little holes in the lid for air. What are you going to do about it?
I want to know how I got in the jar in the first place. Who keeps huge jamjars around? Is this the grape jamboree?

Thalia Vega: Shy, loves theater, animates objects. Not as creepy as she sounds!

[personal profile] pygmalia 2013-03-29 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[Brief Description] Thalia's a pretty reserved nineteen year old superhero with ability to bring inanimate objects to life using 'soul sparks' which are totally super scientific okay. She has a few friends, especially now that she's on a team, but she still spends a lot of her time watching all kinds of performance art and dreaming about one day being a real director while putting on shows with her constructs. She's actually very sweet and opinionated if you get to know her, though!
And not a serial killer. I know she kinda sounds like a serial killer >>
[What's the Canon Like?] Metahumans have recently started emerging, governments, businesses, and the public are dealing with it. See links for more info.

1) List five words you think describe you and why. I do not want to.
2) What has been the most important event in your life so far? Definitely joining DELTA.
3) Someone just punched you in the face on the street, what are you going to do about it? ...Why?
4) You are now trapped inside a jamjar. Yes a glass, oversized jamjar. With little holes in the lid for air. What are you going to do about it? Animate it. Make it let me out.

So, urban fantasy. This seems to be a huge no-no in rp and I'd like to know just why that is. Is it too common, are too many of the same scenarios used, do OCs from these verses suffer too much from Snowflake Syndrome or what?

I have a character I've been developing who's more like an amalgamation of concepts than anything, but I haven't worked too much on the world itself because idk if the idea would be too lazy or boring or what.
notsoheavenly: ([shiny] 50)

[personal profile] notsoheavenly 2013-03-29 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
By "urban fantasy" are you talking vampires, werewolves, necromancers, etc? Because I know plenty of people who play those types of OCs. It may just be what circles you've been playing in because in the ones I'm in it hasn't been a problem at all. There's of course going to be judging from somewhere on the internet, but if I want to play a vampire from a modern setting or a superhero, I'm going to do it whether or not some random anonymous person likes it. If you enjoy your character, the people you tag enjoy your character, and you're not trying to disrupt or godmode anyone else's fun, then what they say doesn't matter.

Now I will say that after a while, it can start looking like all the worlds are the same and too many of the same ideas are being recycled, but I think the best way to get around that is showing how your character exists as an individual in their world. Some people worry too much about things been too similar so they go a little too far in proving how "different" their world or their character is, which I think is where the Snowflake Syndrome comes from. As long as you aren't shoving how different and unique and SPECIAL your character is down people's throats, you're doing okay.

I personally think that worlds that have depth, involvement, and an air of realism (as in I could understand why the people and cultures of that world have developed the way they have), then they will always be interesting in some way.

Celeste | Here there be Angels and Demons

[personal profile] beyondredemption 2013-03-29 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[Brief Description] Celeste has only been alive for 6 years. She's a Nephilim, and the natural ability she was born with was time manipulation. When she was nearly killed as a baby she accelerated her growth as a defense mechanism and within 5 years she reached maturity then stopped aging. She practices control of her emotions, because Angels feel with the whole of them and experiencing emotions like that is too much for her human body and mind and so she loses control if that happens. She's not highly educated, having had no formal education and grew up with her demon hunter mother learning to survive. The mantra of her childhood was 'us over them' and them was everyone who wasn't Celeste or her mom. Part of her takes pride in being like her mom, but another part of her is highly curious and inquisitive about the world.
[What's the Canon Like?] Currently she's early in her canon point. An Angel tried to kill her as a baby and she accelerated her growth, which shocked the Angel long enough for her mom to kill it. Ever since, Celeste has been training as a demon hunter and running all over the world. Her world is filled with Angels and Demons, but they're not all that's out there. Other supernatural beings exist and magic itself exists.

[BONUS IC QUESTIONS]

1) List five words you think describe you and why. Fighter. Nephilim. Abomination. Confused. Running.

2) What has been the most important event in your life so far? When I was four, or eleven... I don't understand my own age in the past. But when I was young, I killed my first Demon. I wasn't as proud as I should have been.

3) Someone just punched you in the face on the street, what are you going to do about it? Try to walk away. I can't risk being caught out. My mother will tell me what to do later.

4) You are now trapped inside a jamjar. Yes a glass, oversized jamjar. With little holes in the lid for air. What are you going to do about it? Break it. Glass can be broken.

That makes a lot of sense, thank you! (And apologies for the anon, I'd log in if I had an account made but welp)

I may be mixing up my genres, since I say urban fantasy but I was thinking more along the lines of "modern world with demons", so I guess that makes it supernatural (haha)? The character would be a human but not a demon hunter, as that was my main thought in creating her. I definitely didn't want to add to a pile of more of the same but also wondered if not doing so would come off as presumptuous and trying to be too different. But you're right in just focusing on the character as an individual, and any powers don't matter near as much as how she reacts to her world, which is the core of her character anyway.

Looking for a woman who can pass for being of mixed race; preferably late teens/early 20s with wavy hair, but early to mid-30s can work too. Closest I've found is Maya Brooks from Mass Effect.

(hey anon is perfectly okay here)

Oooh, gotcha. Really those genres overlap a lot anyway, so I can see why it's hard to figure which one you're talking about. And I'd have to say I love supernatural worlds and how different and/or similar they can be. It's not like EVERY idea is going to be 100% original since, well, fiction has existed for probably as long as humans have been able to articulate stories. I don't think wanting to play around in a world like that is bad and as long as you're making sure your character is a fully developed and in-depth individual, you're doing it right.

Arabelle "Goldenwing" Kintotech | Young Superheroine from a Comicbook verse

[personal profile] golden_blazes 2013-03-29 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[Brief Description] Apparently that's the trend today! Arabelle hails from your fairly standard Comic Book universe Earth. She's a tall (5'11"), lanky blonde gal with great big wings coming out of her back. Chaotic good to a fault, she's the leader of a (very loosely) militarized and government funded superhero team along the lines of the Avengers. This is the second attempt at such a thing in her 'verse, when the first one had to be temporarily suspended for a number of reasons. Arabelle's power set includes flight, air projection and control, fire projection and mild control, a healing factor (speedier healing, not wolverine fuck-you healing), and increased physical durability.
[What's the Canon Like?] Much like modern day earth with a number of differences. "Several years into the future" would be one good description if I didn't typically use modern dates and years. Heavily influenced by Marvel, New York is the central stage for the Squadron Elite project, particularly for it's size, and the large number of various opportunistic types with powers as well. Metahumans have existed for probably hundreds of years, but only recently have their numbers started to drastically increase. The general population's reaction to them is somewhat mixed, they're not overtly feared and hated, but they're not universally liked either.
[Important Links] I don't have anything offhand at the moment. I've got a couple of games I want to app her to, but nothing's finished.
[BONUS IC QUESTIONS] To help show off your character's voice a bit if you want to do them. Your character is more than welcome to lie if it's IC for them.
1) List five words you think describe you and why. Uh, lesseenow, Chaotic, adaptable, fire, flight, Impulsive.
2) What has been the most important event in your life so far? Prolly when my powers fully manifested. There's a couple'a other things, but.
3) Someone just punched you in the face on the street, what are you going to do about it? Prolly deck'em back, dependin' on who and what it was. That question needs more context, man.
4) You are now trapped inside a jamjar. Yes a glass, oversized jamjar. With little holes in the lid for air. What are you going to do about it? Um. I'm probably gonna panic and shatter the jar in my attempts to escape.
